COURSE CURRICULUM

The core modules of the MSc Forensic Science program provide students with a comprehensive foundation in the scientific, analytical, and practical aspects of forensic investigation. Advanced Forensic Toxicology equips students with the skills to detect, analyse, and interpret toxic substances in biological and environmental samples, while Analytical Data Analysis develops the ability to evaluate complex datasets and draw accurate conclusions. Bioanalytical Methods and Sensor Technologies and Chromatography and Mass Spectrometric Methods focus on cutting-edge laboratory techniques and instrumentation essential for modern forensic investigations. Crime Scene to Court offers practical and theoretical understanding of the full forensic process, from evidence collection at crime scenes to the presentation of findings in legal contexts, emphasising ethical responsibilities and expert witness practices. Fire and Explosions examines the scientific principles and investigative approaches required to analyse fire-related and explosive incidents, enhancing students’ specialised expertise. Method Development and Validation ensures that students gain skills in designing, testing, and validating analytical procedures to meet rigorous scientific and legal standards. The Research Project provides an opportunity to undertake an independent investigation, integrating theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and analytical techniques to address a real-world forensic problem. Collectively, these modules prepare graduates for careers in forensic laboratories, law enforcement, regulatory agencies, and other scientific and investigative roles requiring precision, critical thinking, and professional competence.
