COURSE CURRICULUM

The core modules of this program provide a comprehensive foundation for understanding biodiversity loss, environmental change, and practical conservation methods. Students explore the major drivers of global biodiversity decline and examine scientific and policy-based solutions through the Biodiversity Loss module. Current Issues in Planetary Health and the Biosphere deepens understanding of how environmental change affects both ecosystems and human wellbeing, highlighting global interdependencies. Data in Ecology and the Environment equips students with skills in ecological data collection, analysis, and interpretation, which are essential for evidence-based decision-making. Practical experience is developed through Field Skills in the Life and Environmental Sciences and a Residential Field Course, where students gain hands-on training in ecological survey methods, habitat assessment, and environmental monitoring. The Nature Recovery and Sustainability module focuses on strategies for restoring ecosystems and implementing sustainable, nature-based solutions. Professional and Research Skills supports students in developing scientific communication, research design, and technical competencies needed for careers in environmental and conservation fields. The program culminates in an Independent Research Project, allowing students to investigate a topic of personal interest in depth and apply their scientific training to a real-world conservation or ecological challenge. Together, these modules prepare graduates for professional roles in conservation, ecology, and environmental management.
