COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Medieval Studies at the University of Lincoln offers a comprehensive and immersive exploration of the Middle Ages, combining historical, literary, linguistic, and cultural perspectives. Core modules such as Elementary Latin, Medieval Lincoln, Reading Medieval Manuscripts, and Studying Medieval People and their Worlds provide students with essential skills in language, archival research, and historical analysis, enabling them to engage directly with primary sources. Optional modules allow students to tailor their studies to specific areas of interest, including Early Modern Manhood, Medieval Iberia, Mediterranean Encounters, the political and cultural history of Tudor and Stuart Britain, and thematic studies such as Public and Private Emotions in the Middle Ages, Saints and Scholars, and Robin Hood and the Outlaw Tradition. The program encourages a critical understanding of the social, political, and cultural dynamics of medieval Europe and beyond, while also examining the transformation of earlier periods, such as the Roman world, and the decline of chivalric ideals. By engaging with a wide range of textual, visual, and material sources, students develop advanced research skills, interpretative abilities, and scholarly insight.
