COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Gender Studies program combines core and optional modules to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of gender, sexuality, and identity in contemporary society. Core modules such as Critical Reading in the Social and Political Sciences develop students’ abilities to critically engage with academic literature and evaluate social research, while Feminisms: Theories and Debates introduces key feminist frameworks and debates, equipping students with the theoretical tools to analyse gendered power relations. Global Issues in Gender and Sexuality explores the ways gender and sexuality intersect with broader social, political, and cultural contexts worldwide. Independent Study in Gender Studies allows students to pursue specialised research, applying critical and analytical skills to topics of personal or professional interest. Researching Social and Political Sciences provides practical experience in research methods, preparing students to conduct rigorous, evidence-based investigations. Optional modules expand learning into applied and interdisciplinary areas, including Body Politics, which examines embodiment and social norms; Gender, Deviance, Crime and Society, which interrogates gendered experiences of crime and justice; Gender, Media and Culture in a Global Context, which explores representations and influence of media; Masculinities, Power and Society, focusing on constructions of masculinity; and Political Leadership, which examines gendered aspects of governance. Together, these modules develop critical thinking, research expertise, and practical understanding, equipping graduates for careers in policy, advocacy, research, and professional roles where gender analysis is essential.
