The core modules of the MA Film Production program provide a structured pathway for students to develop practical filmmaking skills alongside critical and research-based understanding of the medium. Creative & Civic Partnership: Collaboration and Documentary Studies focuses on collaborative production processes, exploring documentary filmmaking techniques and engagement with communities to create meaningful, socially aware content. Fiction, Non-Fiction and Experimental Film allows students to experiment with a wide range of narrative and stylistic approaches, developing versatility and creative problem-solving skills across different genres and formats. Heads of Department & Writing for Screen offers insights into key production roles, including screenwriting, directing, producing, and cinematography, helping students understand the responsibilities, workflows, and creative decision-making involved in professional filmmaking. New Narratives and Research & Development encourages students to explore innovative storytelling methods and emerging technologies, while fostering a research-driven approach to creative practice. The Graduation Film/Project provides the culmination of the program, enabling students to apply their accumulated knowledge and skills to a substantial final project, demonstrating technical proficiency, creative vision, and professional standards. Collectively, these modules equip students with the practical expertise, creative confidence, and critical insight necessary to succeed in the competitive and evolving film industry, preparing graduates for diverse career pathways in production, post-production, and related creative sectors.
