COURSE CURRICULUM

The core and optional modules of the MA Education program provide students with a comprehensive understanding of educational theory, research, and practice while allowing for personalised learning to suit professional interests. Core modules, such as Critical Engagement with Educational Literature and Research Methods, develop students’ ability to critically review academic work, identify research questions, and apply appropriate methodologies to produce rigorous, evidence-based research. Optional modules allow students to tailor their learning and specialise in areas of particular relevance to their career or interests. For example, modules such as Bullying in Educational Settings and Special Educational Needs and Disability focus on supporting diverse learners and promoting inclusive educational practices. Education and Social Justice, Gender, Education & Global Development, and Global Media and Communication encourage students to explore broader societal and cultural influences on education, fostering a critical understanding of equity, access, and policy. Leadership-focused modules, including Educational Leadership and Management: Theory and Practice and Mentoring and Coaching in Education, equip students with the skills to guide and support colleagues and institutions effectively. STEM Education and Language and Education provide subject-specific insights for practical application in curriculum design and classroom practice. Together, these modules develop analytical, research, and professional competencies, preparing graduates to contribute meaningfully to educational practice, policy, and scholarship in diverse contexts.
