COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Zoology program at Lincoln is designed to provide a thorough understanding of animal biology, ecology, and evolution, combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience. In the first year, students study comparative anatomy and physiology, ecology, animal behaviour and welfare, plant structure, life sciences fundamentals, and research methods, laying a strong foundation for further study. The second year builds on this with modules in evolution, invertebrate and vertebrate zoology, reproduction and development, and data skills, while offering optional modules such as animal behaviour, conservation biology, animal protection, managing ecosystems, and fieldwork opportunities both in the UK and abroad. In the final year, students explore advanced topics including behavioural ecology, global change biology, palaeobiology, and conduct an independent life sciences research project. Optional modules allow further specialisation, covering areas such as animal cognition and welfare, overseas field courses, plant and animal interactions, practical skills in conservation, soil biology, and veterinary parasitology. Across all three years, the course emphasizes hands-on learning, fieldwork, and research-led teaching, enabling students to develop key analytical, observational, and practical skills. Graduates emerge with a comprehensive understanding of zoology, prepared for careers in wildlife management, conservation, research, and related scientific and environmental sectors, equipped to address global ecological challenges.
