COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Social Work Practice at Lincoln is a three-year program designed to prepare students for professional practice as qualified social workers. In the first year, students focus on building foundational knowledge and understanding key theories in social work, developing essential skills for professional practice, and exploring how to apply knowledge effectively in practical settings. Optional skills days and readiness activities support the development of practical and reflective capabilities, ensuring students are prepared for future placements. In the second year, the program introduces assessed practice experience, including a portfolio-based placement, enabling students to apply theory to real-world contexts while working with adults, children, and families. Students also engage in practice analysis, learning to critically evaluate social work interventions and decision-making processes. The final year further enhances professional competence through a second assessed practice placement and the development of a second practice portfolio, which consolidates practical experience and reflective learning. Alongside placement work, students study professional and ethical responsibilities, evidence-based practice, and interprofessional collaboration, preparing them to work effectively across social care settings. By combining academic study with hands-on placements, the program equips graduates with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to meet statutory requirements and work as competent, reflective, and ethical social workers in diverse environments.
