COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Physics with Philosophy program at the University of Lincoln offers a distinctive combination of rigorous physics education and philosophical inquiry, allowing students to explore both the scientific and conceptual foundations of our world. In the first year, students develop core physics skills, including calculus, linear algebra, mechanics, waves, optics, electricity, magnetism, thermodynamics, and quantum physics, alongside practical laboratory experience and computing skills, while engaging with philosophical reasoning through modules on moral philosophy and philosophical logic. The second year builds on this foundation with advanced physics topics such as differential equations, electrodynamics, statistical and quantum physics, Lagrangian and Hamiltonian mechanics, and industrial and financial physics, while students explore philosophical perspectives through existentialism, phenomenology, and the philosophy of science, complemented by collaborative group projects. In the final year, students undertake an advanced physics project and studies in cosmology and general relativity, with options to explore condensed matter physics, fluid dynamics, and methods of mathematical physics, while also engaging with applied philosophy, including ethics, classical Indian philosophy, and the philosophy of psychiatry and mental illness. This combination of analytical, practical, and reflective skills equips graduates with the intellectual versatility, problem-solving ability, and critical thinking necessary for careers in research, science, education, or further postgraduate study.
