COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Physics with Astrophysics program at the University of Lincoln is designed to equip students with strong analytical, problem-solving, and reasoning skills while providing a comprehensive understanding of both physics and astrophysics. In the first year, students gain a foundation in core physics and mathematics, covering calculus, linear algebra, mechanics, electricity, magnetism, thermodynamics, quantum physics, geometrical optics, and waves, alongside practical laboratory experience, computer algebra, technical computing, and professional skills development. The second year builds on this foundation with advanced modules in differential equations, electrodynamics, statistical and quantum physics, Lagrangian and Hamiltonian mechanics, scientific computing, industrial and economic physics, and astrophysics topics such as the solar system and exoplanets, complemented by group projects and an optional year in industry. In the final year, students undertake an advanced independent project and explore specialised astrophysics and physics topics, including cosmology, general relativity, galactic and extragalactic astronomy, stellar evolution, and numerical methods, with further optional study in fluid dynamics, methods of mathematical physics, and physics pedagogy. The program combines theoretical knowledge with research-led teaching and practical experience, preparing graduates for careers in the space industry, scientific research, engineering, technology, and other STEM-related sectors, or for further postgraduate study. It fosters creativity, critical thinking, and technical expertise applicable across a wide range of scientific challenges.
