COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Nursing (Registered Nurse – Mental Health) program at the University of Lincoln offers a structured and comprehensive pathway for students to develop the skills, knowledge, and professional competence required for mental health nursing. In the first year, students build a foundational understanding of healthcare through core modules including Concepts of Health and Illness, Health and Human Development, Nursing in Society, Nursing Practice 1, and Principles of Person-Centred Care. These modules provide essential nursing skills, introduce person-centred care, and explore the social, professional, and ethical contexts of nursing practice. The second year focuses on developing clinical expertise and theoretical knowledge with modules such as Applied Pathophysiology and Pharmacology, Nursing Practice 2, and Research in Nursing, integrating academic learning with practical placements to enhance clinical decision-making and evidence-based practice. The final year emphasizes leadership, specialised mental health care, and advanced clinical skills through modules including Crisis and Relapse Management in Mental Health, Dissertation (Nursing), Leading and Co-ordinating Care, Medicines Management, and Nursing Practice 3. Across all three years, students engage in reflective practice, gain hands-on experience, and develop professional confidence, preparing them to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and deliver safe, effective, and compassionate mental health care in diverse healthcare settings.
