COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Nursing (Registered Nurse – Child) program at the University of Lincoln provides a comprehensive and structured pathway for students to develop the skills, knowledge, and professional competence required for paediatric nursing. In the first year, students establish a strong foundation in healthcare through core modules including Concepts of Health and Illness, Health and Human Development, Nursing in Society, Nursing Practice 1, and Principles of Person-Centred Care. These modules introduce essential nursing skills, patient-focused care principles, and the social, professional, and ethical context of nursing practice. The second year focuses on developing clinical expertise and advanced theoretical knowledge, with modules such as Applied Pathophysiology and Pharmacology, Children with Complex Care Needs, Nursing Practice 2, and Research in Nursing. These modules integrate academic study with practical placements, fostering critical thinking, clinical decision-making, and evidence-based practice. In the final year, students refine leadership, management, and specialised nursing skills through modules including Dissertation (Nursing), Leading and Co-ordinating Care, Medicines Management, Nursing Practice 3, and Recognising and Managing the Deteriorating Child. Across all three years, students engage in reflective practice, gain extensive hands-on experience, and develop professional confidence, preparing them to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care for children in diverse healthcare settings.
