COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Midwifery course at the University of Lincoln provides a comprehensive education in the theory and practice of midwifery, preparing students to deliver high-quality, women-centred care across the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge and practical skills through modules such as Bio-Psychosocial Foundations of Midwifery, Developing Holistic Midwifery Care, Essential Midwifery Practice, Midwifery Practice Part 1, and Professional Aspects of Midwifery Care. These modules introduce students to core concepts, professional standards, and the practical application of midwifery skills in clinical settings. In the second year, learning advances with modules including Applying Midwifery Practice, Midwifery Practice Part 2, Public Health and Global Midwifery, Safe and Effective Midwifery Care, and The Midwife as a Scholar, which deepen clinical competence, critical thinking, and an understanding of midwifery in broader societal and global contexts. The final year focuses on advanced practice, leadership, and professional development through modules such as Care of the Newborn, Evaluating Midwifery Practice, The Midwife as a Leader, and Transforming Midwifery Practice. Throughout the program, students engage in supervised clinical placements, research-informed learning, and professional development activities, equipping them to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and practice as confident, skilled, and reflective midwives capable of improving maternal and neonatal outcomes.
