COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Mathematics course provides a thorough and structured study of mathematical principles, theories, and applications. In the first year, students develop essential foundations through core modules such as Algebra, Calculus, Linear Algebra, Probability and Statistics, and Ideas of Mathematical Proof, alongside practical training in Computer Algebra, Technical Computing, and Geometrical Optics, Waves, and Mechanics. The year also includes Professional Skills and Group Study to build teamwork and communication abilities. The second year deepens mathematical understanding with modules like Algebraic Structures, Complex Analysis, Differential Equations, and Lagrangian and Hamiltonian Mechanics. Students also gain practical experience in Industrial and Financial Mathematics, Scientific Computing, and a Group Project, linking theory to real-world problem-solving. In the final year, the focus shifts toward advanced and specialised topics, including Group Theory, Numerical Methods, Tensor Analysis, and an Advanced Project and Communication module that allows students to conduct independent research. Optional modules such as Fluid Dynamics, Mathematics Pedagogy, and Methods of Mathematical Physics offer opportunities to tailor learning to specific interests and career goals.
