COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Mathematics and Theoretical Physics course at the University of Lincoln offers an integrated approach to studying two closely related scientific disciplines. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in both mathematics and physics through modules such as Algebra, Calculus, Linear Algebra, Computer Algebra and Technical Computing, Geometrical Optics, Waves and Mechanics, Electricity, Magnetism, Thermal and Quantum Physics, and Introduction to Modern Astronomy, while developing professional skills and teamwork through group study. The second year deepens understanding with advanced mathematical and physical concepts, including Algebraic Structures, Differential Equations, Electrodynamics, Lagrangian and Hamiltonian Mechanics, Scientific Computing, Industrial and Financial Mathematics, Statistical and Quantum Physics I, and a Group Project that fosters collaborative problem solving. In the final year, students focus on specialised and research-oriented topics, completing an Advanced Project and Communication module while studying Condensed Matter Physics, Cosmology and General Relativity, and Numerical Methods. Optional modules such as Fluid Dynamics, Methods of Mathematical Physics, and Physics or Mathematics Pedagogy allow students to tailor their studies to individual interests. The course combines theoretical rigor with practical application, equipping graduates with strong analytical, computational, and problem-solving skills, as well as transferable skills in communication and research, preparing them for careers in science, technology, engineering, and further postgraduate study.
