COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Biology degree at the University of Lincoln provides a broad and flexible curriculum that combines foundational biological sciences with opportunities to specialise in areas of personal interest. In the first year, students build core knowledge in comparative anatomy and physiology, ecology, plant structure and function, microbial biochemistry, and research methods, establishing a strong scientific grounding. The second year deepens understanding through modules in conservation biology, evolution, molecular biology, and data skills, while offering a wide range of optional modules such as animal behaviour, immunology, clinical biochemistry, human ageing and disease, invertebrate and vertebrate zoology, reproduction and development, and study abroad experiences, enabling students to tailor their learning and gain practical experience. The final year culminates in independent research through the Life Sciences Research Project and the Plant and Animal Interactions module, alongside further optional modules covering applied biochemistry, animal cognition and welfare, behavioural ecology, forensic anthropology, global change biology, veterinary parasitology, and overseas fieldwork opportunities. The program emphasizes practical and field-based learning, research-led teaching, and the development of analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Graduates leave with the scientific knowledge, technical expertise, and practical experience needed to pursue careers in biology, ecology, conservation, biotechnology, environmental management, or further postgraduate study.
