COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering course at the University of Lincoln provides a comprehensive and practical education in mechanical engineering, combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience. In the first year, students develop foundational skills through modules such as Design Challenge for Engineers, Engineering Mechanics, Electrical and Electronic Technology, Materials and Methods of Manufacture, Mathematical Skills for Engineers, and Thermofluids. The second year builds on this foundation with advanced study in Applied Dynamics and Vibrations, Advanced Thermofluids, Control Systems, Electrical Power and Machines, Solid Body Mechanics, Data Modelling and Simulation, Industrial Engineering, and an Innovation Project. Students also have the opportunity to undertake a Year in Industry or a Study Abroad period, gaining valuable professional experience. In the final year, students focus on advanced topics and project-based learning through modules including Advanced Manufacturing Processes and Systems, New and Sustainable Product Development, and an Individual Project, while optional modules such as Computational Fluid Dynamics, Finite Element Analysis, Combustion, Fuels and Energy, Energy Systems and Conversion, Robotics and Automation, Signal Processing, and State-Space Control allow for specialisation. The course emphasizes problem-solving, innovation, and cross-disciplinary collaboration, equipping graduates with the technical expertise, practical skills, and industry awareness required to pursue successful careers in engineering, manufacturing, energy, and related sectors.
