COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Sports Journalism degree at Lincoln is structured to provide students with a strong foundation in journalistic principles while focusing on the sports media industry. In the first year, students study core modules including essential journalism, law, journalism production, politics for journalists, sport and the media, and sport writing and reporting, with the option to develop shorthand skills. This year introduces the fundamentals of reporting, media law, and sports-specific content creation, preparing students for practical and academic challenges. In the second year, students advance their skills through essential journalism, journalism production projects, law, ethics, and regulation, research methods, and sport and society. Opportunities for professional experience are embedded through industry placements and international exchanges, allowing students to gain real-world exposure and apply their learning in practical environments. The final year focuses on independent and professional journalism projects, enabling students to produce substantial work demonstrating their expertise in sports reporting and media production. Modules such as sport, PR and communication, and the business of sport explore the broader context of the sports industry and the role of media within it. Throughout the course, students develop critical thinking, research, ethical awareness, and practical skills, ensuring they are prepared for careers in local, national, and international sports journalism, equipped with the confidence and versatility required in a rapidly evolving media landscape.
