COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Sociology program at Lincoln provides a comprehensive exploration of social structures, inequalities, and policy, equipping students with the skills to critically analyse contemporary social issues. In the first year, students are introduced to sociological research methods, concepts of inequality, social policy, and practical applications of sociology, alongside options that encourage engagement with equity and social inclusion. The second year builds on this foundation, encouraging deeper engagement with classical sociological theory, applied research, and social activism. Students explore topics such as work, society, youth justice, criminology, and international perspectives, with options to examine comparative politics, organised crime, and transnational security, allowing students to contextualise social phenomena globally. The third year focuses on advanced research and independent study, while offering opportunities to specialise in areas such as body politics, gender and violence, global health governance, migration, extremism, policing, and human rights. Through this structured progression, students develop analytical, evaluative, and research skills, learning to connect theory with practical applications in diverse social contexts. The course integrates academic study with opportunities for real-world engagement, including placements and projects, preparing students for careers in social research, policy development, community engagement, criminal justice, and other fields that require a nuanced understanding of social structures and the capacity to respond to complex societal challenges.
