COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Product Design course at Lincoln is structured to develop students’ creativity, technical knowledge, and critical thinking through a progressive, hands-on curriculum. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in design principles, exploring contextual studies, design thinking, digital design, and drawing. These modules provide the essential skills to conceptualize and communicate ideas effectively while fostering creativity and an understanding of design contexts. In the second year, the focus shifts to deepening technical and conceptual expertise through modules such as contextual studies 2, cultures, interdisciplinary collaboration, sensory design, and visual language. Students have opportunities to gain practical, real-world experience through industry placements or study abroad modules, enhancing their adaptability and professional readiness. The third year emphasizes independent project work and the application of accumulated knowledge through contextual studies 3, futures, and two negotiated projects. This stage encourages students to explore innovative solutions, develop professional portfolios, and prepare for entry into the competitive design industry. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to approach design sustainably, critically, and responsibly, integrating creativity with practical application. Graduates leave with the skills, experience, and portfolio needed to pursue careers in product design, creative industries, and related fields, equipped to respond to contemporary social and environmental challenges.
