COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Politics program at Lincoln provides students with an in-depth understanding of political systems, governance, and contemporary social issues both in the UK and globally. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in comparative politics, political power, and the structures that shape British society, alongside optional modules that explore equity, inclusion, and key social science concepts. The second year expands this understanding through core modules on political parties, research methods, and critical thinking, while offering a wide range of optional subjects including European politics, foreign policy, welfare, security, criminology, nationalism, and youth justice. Students also have opportunities for practical engagement through work placements and virtual exchanges, preparing them for real-world applications of political analysis. The third year focuses on independent research and parliamentary studies, allowing students to synthesise knowledge and critically evaluate political processes, policies, and contemporary issues. Optional modules enable exploration of topics such as extremism, human rights, migration, global health governance, environmental and green criminology, gender, and international relations, reflecting the global and interdisciplinary scope of the course. Throughout the program, students develop analytical, research, and policy-making skills, equipping them for careers in government, policy development, international organisations, advocacy, and further postgraduate study.
