COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Music degree at the University of Lincoln provides a comprehensive, practice-based education that develops students as performers, composers, and creative practitioners. In the first year, students establish foundational skills through modules such as Audio Recording Techniques, Creating Music, Ensemble Performance, Knowing the Score, and Musicology, alongside optional modules that encourage exploration of performance, technical theatre, and creative arts. The second year builds on these foundations with core modules like Exploring 2: Place and Space, Music Management and Curation, and Musical Context / Listening Culture, while offering a wide range of options including Composition, Contemporary Performance Technologies, Digital Performance, Industry Placements, and Musical Theatre, allowing students to gain practical, professional, and interdisciplinary experience. In the final year, students focus on advanced study and career preparation through Applied Musicological Perspectives, Creative Entrepreneurship, and Exploring 3: Investigating Creative Practice, while optional modules such as Artist in Residence, Arts and Cultural Industries, Dance Management and Production, Music Psychology, Podcasting, and Production Design enable further specialisation and creative experimentation. Across all years, the program integrates practical music-making with critical and reflective study of musical histories, cultures, and genres, fostering artistic innovation, collaboration, and professional readiness. Graduates are equipped to pursue careers in performance, composition, production, education, and wider creative industries, as well as further postgraduate study.
