COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) English and History at Lincoln integrates literary and historical study across three years, spanning medieval to contemporary eras. Year 1 establishes core foundations through critical thinking, forging the modern state, medieval world, historical craft, and literary surveys from medieval to Romantic and Victorian to modern periods. Year 2 advances to literature of late capitalism, new historical directions, and critical theory, with extensive options in American, medieval, Renaissance, or postcolonial literature alongside historical modules on civil war, empire, migration, or digital heritage, plus study abroad. In Year 3, students pursue specialised choices including Gothic, Shakespeare, science fiction, childhood literature, or independent study, paired with history options in anarchism, eugenics, urban life, slavery, or work placements. The joint-honours structure fosters interdisciplinary insight, research proficiency, and transferable skills in analysis, communication, and project management. Graduates emerge equipped for heritage, education, publishing, media, and public service careers with global historical and literary perspective.
