COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Conservation of Cultural Heritage program provides a rigorous three-year progression from foundational theory to advanced professional practice. Year 1 introduces core modules in applied practical skills, conservation processes, science, theory, documentation techniques, professional development, and visual-material culture. Year 2 builds technical expertise through applied practical conservation, analytical science, and preventive conservation, complemented by a diverse range of optional modules spanning history, classics, philosophy, digital heritage, and placements—full-time, part-time, or at partner institutions. These options enrich contextual understanding and offer real-world experience. In Year 3, students undertake advanced practical conservation across two modules, applied preventive strategies, an independent dissertation, and a public-facing conservation exhibition that integrates research, restoration, and curatorial skills. The curriculum emphasises hands-on work with authentic artefacts in specialist laboratories, fostering scientific precision, ethical decision-making, and historical insight. Graduates emerge as versatile conservators equipped to preserve diverse cultural materials for museums, historic sites, and collections worldwide.
