COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Classical Studies at the University of Lincoln offers a progressive three-year program rooted in ancient Greek and Roman worlds. Year 1 establishes core foundations through modules on ancient mythology, archaic and republican Rome, classical art and archaeology from Knossos to Constantinople, Greek history, and introductory Latin, alongside methodological training in studying antiquity. Optional choices include medieval history or empires. Year 2 deepens engagement with Alexander the Great’s Hellenistic legacy, the Roman emperor, and practical applications of classics, while a wide range of options spans digital heritage, classical reception, decolonisation, Greek language, Renaissance art, British-Roman interactions, and study abroad opportunities. Year 3 centres on independent research via a dissertation and core study of Greek and Roman drama, supplemented by advanced options in Latin and Greek texts, ancient philosophy, graffiti, late antiquity, digital archaeology, curatorial practice, and specialised topics like Arabian antiquity, medieval chivalry, or slavery. Work placements and creative projects enhance professional skills. The curriculum blends rigorous academic inquiry with interdisciplinary breadth, language acquisition, and hands-on experience, preparing students to interpret classical influences across historical and modern contexts.
