COURSE CURRICULUM

The taught phase of the MSc in Molecular Genetics is designed to provide students with a comprehensive grounding in modern molecular techniques and the principles underlying their application in research. During the first semester, students participate in intensive laboratory classes alongside a series of lectures, combining practical and theoretical learning. The program is organised into three core modules. Introduction to Molecular Techniques equips students with essential skills in laboratory practice, familiarising them with key methods used in contemporary molecular genetics research. Experimental Design in Molecular Genetics focuses on developing the ability to plan, execute, and interpret experiments effectively, encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving in the context of genetic research. Communicating Molecular Genetics Research provides training in scientific communication, enabling students to present their findings clearly and accurately, both in written and oral formats, to specialist and non-specialist audiences. Together, these modules ensure that students acquire a robust understanding of molecular genetics techniques, gain experience in experimental design, and develop the professional skills necessary to disseminate research outcomes. This combination of practical, analytical, and communication skills prepares students for the extended research project in the second semester and equips them with the expertise needed to pursue careers in research, biotechnology, healthcare, or further academic study in genetics.
