COURSE CURRICULUM

The taught phase of the MSc in Immunity, Infection and Chronic Disease is designed to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in both theoretical knowledge and practical laboratory skills. During the first semester, students engage in intensive taught laboratory classes alongside a series of lectures, ensuring a balance between hands-on experience and conceptual understanding. The course is organised into two key modules. Introduction to Molecular Techniques focuses on equipping students with essential laboratory skills, including molecular and cellular techniques used in modern biomedical research, enabling them to perform experiments with precision and accuracy. Immunity, Infection and Chronic Disease: Theory provides a detailed understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms that underpin immune responses, host-pathogen interactions, and the role of immunity in chronic diseases. This module encourages critical thinking and integration of theoretical concepts with experimental evidence. Complementing these modules, Scientific Communication and Analytic Techniques develops students’ ability to interpret and present scientific data effectively, fostering skills in data analysis, academic writing, and oral communication that are essential for professional and research careers. Together, these modules ensure that students acquire both the technical expertise and conceptual knowledge required to pursue advanced research in immunology, infectious disease, and related biomedical fields, preparing them for laboratory-based projects and future career development.
