COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Finance at Leicester is structured to provide a thorough grounding in both theoretical and practical aspects of finance through a combination of core modules across three semesters. In the first semester, students begin with two non-credit-bearing modules, Foundations of Mathematics for Finance and Professional Skills in Finance, to build essential quantitative and professional capabilities. They then progress to modules including Financial Risk Management, which examines methods to identify, assess, and mitigate financial risks; Financial Analysis and Investment, focusing on evaluating investment opportunities; Financial Modelling, which develops skills in constructing quantitative models for financial decision-making; and Financial Statement Analysis, providing the tools to interpret corporate financial reports critically. The second semester continues with Corporate Finance, emphasizing financial decision-making within firms; Financial Derivatives, exploring instruments such as options and futures; Principles of Banking, covering the structure and operation of financial institutions; and Fixed-Income Securities, focusing on debt instruments and interest rate risk. In the third semester, students study Investment Management, applying analytical and strategic approaches to portfolio management, and Behavioural Finance, which investigates the psychological factors influencing financial decision-making. Together, these modules equip students with a deep understanding of finance principles, analytical techniques, and practical applications, preparing them for professional roles in finance, investment, banking, and related sectors.
