COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Actuarial Science with Data Analytics offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to develop expertise in both actuarial science and data-driven decision-making. The program begins with a core module in Fundamentals of Data Science, providing the essential skills in programming, data handling, and statistical analysis needed for the actuarial profession. Students then select three option modules from areas such as Actuarial Modelling, Markov Processes, Statistical Distributions and Inference, Financial Engineering for Actuaries, Business Microeconomics, Operational Research, Actuarial Professional Skills and Employability, and Fundamentals of GIS, enabling them to tailor their learning to their career goals. In addition, students choose four more option modules covering topics such as Actuarial Modelling 2, Survival Models, Liability Modelling, Business Finance, Business Macroeconomics, Statistical Data Analysis, Generalised Linear Models, Data Mining and Neural Networks, and the Actuarial Practice Workshop, which serves as a prerequisite for Actuarial Practice. The summer component includes the Actuarial Communications Project to enhance reporting and communication skills, alongside an optional module in Business Economics or Actuarial Practice. Through this structure, students gain the analytical, technical, and professional skills required to assess risk, interpret complex data, and apply actuarial principles effectively in financial services, insurance, consultancy, and other data-intensive industries.
