COURSE CURRICULUM

The Translation MA provides a comprehensive foundation in both the theory and practice of translation, preparing students for professional work or further academic study. The core modules introduce the development of translation studies, offering a historical and theoretical framework to understand how translation has evolved as an academic discipline and professional practice. Research Skills and Methods in Translation Studies 1 and 2 equip students with the tools needed to undertake rigorous research, including critical analysis, methodology, and application of scholarly techniques to translation-related inquiries. The Current Issues in Translation Research and Practice module explores contemporary debates, challenges, and innovations within the field, allowing students to critically engage with emerging trends and technological developments in translation. Throughout the course, students develop advanced linguistic skills, intercultural awareness, and practical expertise in translating across diverse contexts, such as business, media, literature, and international communication. The program culminates in an independent dissertation, enabling students to conduct in-depth research on a translation topic of their choice, demonstrating their ability to integrate theory, research methods, and practice. By the end of the MA, graduates will be well-prepared to pursue careers as professional translators, language specialists, or continue into doctoral research, combining technical proficiency with scholarly insight into translation studies.
