The Museum Studies MA provides a comprehensive foundation for students aiming to develop careers in museums, galleries, or related cultural sectors. The core module, Developing Professional Practice, equips students with essential skills and knowledge for professional work in cultural institutions, including project management, ethical practice, and reflective professional development. Contemporary Museum Contexts examines the changing role of museums in society, exploring issues such as cultural representation, accessibility, inclusion, and the ethical responsibilities of institutions in engaging diverse communities. Objects and Collections: Care, Management and Curation introduces students to the practical and theoretical aspects of managing, preserving, and curating collections, covering cataloguing, conservation techniques, and documentation standards. Designing for Creative Lives focuses on creating meaningful and interactive experiences for visitors, addressing the design and delivery of exhibitions and programs that inspire creativity and learning. Engaging Audiences explores strategies for interpretation, outreach, and communication, emphasizing the importance of audience-centered approaches to museum work. The Specialisms module allows students to deepen their knowledge in areas of personal or professional interest, while the Practice module provides practical experience through placements, projects, or collaborations with museums and cultural organizations.
