COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in International Relations is structured to provide students with a deep understanding of contemporary global politics through a combination of core study and independent research. The core module, International Relations After the Cold War, examines the evolution of international relations in the post-Cold War era, focusing on the ways in which Western powers have shaped global order and how non-Western states and actors respond to this influence. This module encourages students to critically evaluate the dominance of Western institutions, interests, and cultural norms within the international system, while also considering alternative perspectives and challenges to global power structures. Complementing this core study, students undertake an MA Dissertation, which allows them to pursue an independent research project on a topic of their choosing within the field of international relations. The dissertation provides an opportunity to apply theoretical frameworks, conduct in-depth empirical analysis, and develop advanced research, analytical, and academic writing skills. Together, the core module and dissertation enable students to gain specialised knowledge of global politics, understand complex international dynamics, and critically assess issues such as diplomacy, security, development, and global governance. Graduates are equipped for careers in policy-making, international organisations, research, and further academic study, with a strong foundation in analytical thinking and independent scholarship.
