COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Human Rights and Global Ethics offers a structured program combining core and option modules to provide both foundational knowledge and specialised study. In the first semester, students take the core module, The Politics of Human Rights, which introduces key concepts, theories, and debates in human rights, exploring how political, social, and legal frameworks shape the protection and violation of rights globally. Alongside this, students choose three option modules from a diverse range, including The Holocaust, Legal Responses to Global Injustice, The State, Law and Religious Freedoms, International Relations After the Cold War, and International Security, allowing them to tailor their studies to specific areas of interest and develop a broader understanding of historical, legal, and political contexts relevant to human rights. In the second semester, students select two further option modules from topics such as Religious Conflict and Coexistence, After The Holocaust, Global Cities: the View from Asia, Feminist Perspectives on International Law, Freedom of Expression, US Foreign Policy: Themes and Controversies, and Global Ethics in Practice. These modules provide opportunities to explore ethical issues, international law, and contemporary global challenges in depth. Together, the combination of core and option modules equips students with analytical, research, and ethical reasoning skills, preparing them for careers in human rights, policy, advocacy, international organisations, and further academic study.
