COURSE CURRICULUM

The core modules of the History MA in Holocaust and Genocide Studies provide students with a rigorous foundation in both historical methodology and the study of genocide. Historical Research, Historical Writing introduces students to essential research skills, critical analysis, and advanced academic writing, enabling them to engage with primary and secondary sources effectively and produce well-structured, evidence-based historical arguments. The Holocaust module offers an in-depth examination of one of the most significant genocides in modern history, exploring its origins, development, and consequences, as well as the experiences of victims, perpetrators, and bystanders. Students study the social, political, and cultural contexts that contributed to the Holocaust, alongside debates in historiography and memory studies. After The Holocaust focuses on the aftermath of genocide, investigating how survivors, societies, and nations have confronted, remembered, and represented mass violence. This module also explores processes of justice, reconciliation, and memorialisation, highlighting the ethical and moral dimensions of studying and commemorating genocide. Together, these core modules combine methodological training, historical knowledge, and critical reflection, equipping students with the skills to analyse complex historical events, conduct independent research, and engage thoughtfully with comparative studies of genocide. Graduates are prepared for careers in academia, education, public history, policy, and research related to Holocaust and genocide studies.
