COURSE CURRICULUM

The core modules of the MA in Global Media and Communication provide students with a thorough foundation in the study of media, communication, and globalisation. Global Digital Cultures examines the impact of digital technologies on societies and cultures worldwide, exploring how online platforms and digital practices shape social interactions, cultural expression, and communication flows. Media Research Methods equips students with essential skills for designing and conducting rigorous research in media and communication studies, including both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Global Media: Structures and Representations focuses on the organisation, ownership, and content of media systems, analysing how media structures influence representation, public discourse, and cultural production. Global Communications and Development explores the role of communication in development processes, investigating how media can both support and hinder social, economic, and political progress, with attention to inequalities between the global north and south. Global Affairs: Actors, Communication and Culture examines the influence of international organisations, governments, and non-state actors in shaping global communication and cultural flows, highlighting the political and economic dimensions of transnational media. Together, these modules provide a multidisciplinary perspective, combining theoretical knowledge, practical research skills, and critical analysis, preparing students to understand, evaluate, and engage with global media and communication processes in both academic and professional contexts.
