COURSE CURRICULUM

The full-time route of the Film Studies MA offers a structured program designed to develop both critical and research skills in the study of cinema. In the first semester, Introduction to Postgraduate Research equips students with essential techniques for independent scholarly work, including research methodology, critical analysis, and academic writing. Researching Film History allows students to explore the historical development of cinema, examining key movements, styles, and industrial contexts, while Global Cinema broadens their perspective by studying films from different countries and cultures, highlighting the impact of transnational flows on film production and reception. In the second semester, Writing About Film focuses on developing analytical and communication skills, enabling students to craft well-structured and persuasive arguments about films and cinematic trends. Digital Cinema examines contemporary developments in film production and distribution, including the influence of digital technologies and online platforms on storytelling and audience engagement. Gender and Genre investigates how gender, identity, and genre conventions intersect in cinema, encouraging critical reflection on representation, power, and cultural meaning. Together, these modules provide a comprehensive foundation in film studies, combining historical knowledge, theoretical understanding, and practical analytical skills. This prepares students for independent research, professional careers in media and cultural industries, and further postgraduate study.
