COURSE CURRICULUM

The core modules of the English Literature MA are designed to provide students with a strong foundation in advanced literary study and research skills. In the first semester, Introduction to Postgraduate Research equips students with essential skills for independent academic work, including critical thinking, research methodology, and analytical techniques. This module helps students navigate complex literary texts and develop the confidence to engage with scholarly debates. Alongside this, The Family in Literature explores representations of family relationships across different historical periods and cultural contexts, allowing students to examine how literature reflects and shapes social norms, values, and human experiences. In the second semester, the Advanced Research Methods module builds on these skills by focusing on techniques for rigorous and systematic literary research. Students learn how to design and execute research projects, critically evaluate sources, and communicate their findings effectively to both academic and non-academic audiences. Together, these core modules ensure that students develop a comprehensive understanding of literary analysis, research strategies, and scholarly communication, providing the foundation needed for their dissertations and for advanced study or professional careers that require strong analytical, writing, and research abilities.
