COURSE CURRICULUM

The core modules of the MA in Digital Media and Society provide a comprehensive foundation for understanding the complex relationships between digital technologies and society. The Sociology of Digital Media, a double module, explores how digital media shapes social structures, cultural norms, and human interactions, offering students a deep understanding of the societal impacts of digital communication. Research Methods for the Online World equips students with essential tools to conduct rigorous, ethical, and methodologically sound investigations in digital environments, covering both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The Politics of Digital Media examines the influence of digital technologies on political processes, governance, and public discourse, highlighting issues such as regulation, power, and digital activism. Digital Media, Online Persuasion and Behavioural Change focuses on the mechanisms through which digital media influences attitudes, decision-making, and behaviour, drawing on insights from psychology, marketing, and communication studies. Finally, Critical Approaches to Data Analytics and the Digital Economy encourages students to interrogate the social, ethical, and economic implications of data-driven technologies, including big data, algorithmic decision-making, and digital business models.
