COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM in International Human Rights Law is structured to provide students with specialised knowledge and practical expertise in human rights law, combining core and optional modules with an extended dissertation. The core module, Dissertation, allows students to undertake an in-depth, independent research project within the human rights field, demonstrating analytical, research, and writing skills. Students choose eight option modules, with at least six drawn from the International Human Rights Law stream, enabling them to develop a strong specialisation. In the first semester, students select up to four modules from options including Human Rights and Human Wrongs: Core Principles, Legal Responses to Global Injustice, Human Rights and Health Care Law, International Migration and Refugee Law, Law of the United Nations, The State, Law and Religious Freedoms, The Politics of Human Rights, The Law of International Protection: Asylum Seekers and Refugees, and Justice and the Future. In the second semester, up to four modules are chosen from options such as Feminist Perspectives on International Law, Freedom of Expression, Contemporary Challenges in Intellectual Property Law, European Convention on Human Rights, International Law and the Use of Force, and Global Ethics in Practice. Students may also select up to two modules outside the stream from a wide range of subjects, allowing flexibility to explore complementary legal areas. This module structure equips graduates with advanced legal knowledge, critical research skills, and professional competencies for careers in international law, NGOs, government, and policy-making.
