COURSE CURRICULUM

The Law with a Modern Language LLB at Leicester combines comprehensive legal study with advanced language learning, providing students with expertise in both disciplines. In the first year, students are introduced to core legal principles, including constitutional and administrative law, contract law, and foundations of law, while beginning their chosen language at either beginner or advanced level in French, Italian, or Spanish. The second year builds on this foundation, expanding legal knowledge to include criminal law, the law of tort, and EU-UK relations, alongside continuing language studies at post-beginner or post-advanced level, further enhancing linguistic and cultural skills. In the final year, students focus on advanced legal topics, including equity and trusts and land law, and continue language studies at a proficiency level, preparing them for professional practice or international careers. Flexibility is offered through a wide range of optional law modules, allowing students to specialise in areas such as bioethics, company law, human rights, intellectual property, or employment law, or select practice-oriented modules including legal advice clinics and commercial law. Throughout the program, students develop analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, combining legal expertise with cross-cultural and language competence. This joint honours structure equips graduates for careers in international law, multinational firms, or global organisations where legal knowledge and language skills are essential.
