COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mathematics with Data Science and Artificial Intelligence BSc at the University of Leicester is a comprehensive program that combines rigorous mathematical foundations with practical training in data science and AI. In the first year, students build essential skills in calculus, linear algebra, probability and statistics, as well as introductory programming and algorithms, providing a strong base for computational and analytical work. The second year advances mathematical and statistical knowledge through modules in vector calculus, statistical inference, and data science fundamentals, while introducing AI and machine learning concepts. Optional modules allow students to specialise in areas such as advanced linear algebra, discrete mathematics, industrial applications, and data analytics. In the final year, students undertake a major Mathematics and AI project, applying their learning to a substantial research topic. Core modules include machine learning for data analysis, data mining, and neural networks, while optional modules provide opportunities to explore computational intelligence, operational research, financial engineering, nonlinear optimisation, complex analysis, and algorithm design. Throughout the degree, students gain hands-on experience in programming languages such as Python, R, and Matlab, and develop skills in statistical modelling, data analysis, and problem solving.
