COURSE CURRICULUM

The Financial Economics and Banking BSc at Leicester provides a comprehensive education in the theory and practice of finance, banking, and economics, equipping students with the skills to understand and analyse financial markets and institutions. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in economics, finance, mathematics, statistics, and data analysis, with core modules covering microeconomics, macroeconomics, contemporary issues in economics and business, and introductory economic data analysis. This shared first-year curriculum allows flexibility to switch to other related economics degrees. In the second year, students deepen their understanding of banking and finance through core modules such as principles of banking, principles of finance, money and central banking, intermediate microeconomics and macroeconomics, and introductory econometrics. They also have the opportunity to choose optional modules, enabling them to tailor their learning to their interests, covering topics such as economic history, labour economics, or environmental and resource economics. The final year focuses on advanced financial topics, including financial derivatives, investment management, risk management in banking, corporate finance, and communicating economics. Students further personalise their studies through optional modules in areas such as international finance, managerial economics, accounting, mathematical finance, economics of health, or behavioural economics. Graduates gain strong analytical, quantitative, and practical skills, preparing them for careers in finance, banking, investment, and economic analysis, as well as postgraduate study or professional qualifications.
