COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics BSc at Leicester offers a structured program that equips students with a thorough understanding of economic theory, quantitative methods, and their application in real-world contexts. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge across core areas including microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics, mathematics, and contemporary issues in economics, finance, and business, allowing flexibility to switch to related economics degrees such as Economics and Data Analytics, Economics and Accounting, Business Economics, or Financial Economics and Banking. The second year deepens analytical and theoretical skills through modules such as intermediate microeconomics and macroeconomics, introductory econometrics, game theory, and applied econometrics, while offering optional modules in areas such as economic history, money and central banking, labour economics, environmental and resource economics, and data science. The final year focuses on advanced economic analysis, including advanced microeconomics and macroeconomics, alongside modules in communicating economics. Students also have the opportunity to tailor their studies by selecting option modules in industrial economics, development economics, international trade, managerial economics, economics of education, international finance, public economics, economics of health, and behavioural economics. The program combines rigorous theoretical learning with quantitative and applied economic skills, preparing graduates for careers in public and private sectors, international organisations, or further postgraduate study, while fostering critical thinking and analytical abilities essential for understanding complex economic phenomena.
