COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc in Chemistry is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of chemical principles, practical skills, and advanced research techniques. In the first year, students build a solid foundation through modules in general, organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry, supported by practical chemistry, chemistry mathematics and skills, analytical principles, and sustainable and environmental chemistry. This foundational year equips students with the essential knowledge and laboratory experience needed for further study. In the second year, students extend this knowledge through advanced modules in spectroscopy, organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry, alongside practical chemistry and key skills, analytical chemistry in practice, and polymer and materials chemistry. This year also emphasizes the communication of scientific knowledge to broader audiences, preparing students for professional and research contexts. The final year focuses on refining practical expertise and undertaking independent research projects. Core modules include advanced organic and inorganic chemistry, research skills, employability, and a two-part chemistry research project, while optional modules allow specialization in areas such as advanced physical chemistry, metals in synthesis, advanced analytical and materials chemistry, major therapeutic areas, and sustainability enterprise projects. Throughout the degree, students develop problem-solving, analytical, and experimental skills, preparing them to pursue careers in research, industry, healthcare, or environmental science, and to contribute to scientific innovation.
