COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biological Sciences (Zoology) BSc is structured to provide a broad and in-depth understanding of animal biology and biodiversity. In the first year, students study a range of foundational topics in biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, neuroscience, physiology, and zoology, gaining an overview of core principles in biology and identifying areas of interest for further specialization. Modules include molecular and cell biology, genetics, physiology, pharmacology, neuroscience, and biodiversity and behaviour. In the second year, the program builds on this foundation with core modules in research skills, global change biology and conservation, neurobiology and animal behaviour, and genes, development and inheritance. Students can tailor their learning through optional modules in areas such as genomics, physiology, pharmacology, microbiology, bioinformatics, molecular cell biology, and evolutionary biology. The final year focuses on advanced topics in conservation and ecological genetics, while offering a wide range of optional modules covering neurobiology, physiology, genetics, immunology, pharmacology, biodiversity, and sustainability. Students also have the opportunity to undertake independent research projects, gaining practical and analytical skills. Overall, the program combines theoretical knowledge, practical laboratory experience, and fieldwork, equipping graduates with the expertise required for careers in zoology, ecology, conservation, environmental management, or further research in biological sciences.
