COURSE CURRICULUM

The Applied Psychology BSc progresses through a structured pathway that develops your understanding of core psychological principles while building strong research skills. In the first year, you gain a solid grounding in fundamental areas such as sensation, perception, cognition, social and developmental psychology, and brain and behaviour. You also begin developing essential research competencies through modules in psychological research skills and academic communication, learning to use computers for data collection and analysis. In the second year, you explore more advanced topics, including psychopathology, social and developmental psychology, cognition and professional applications of psychology. Research training continues through practical projects and an applied psychology research project, while optional modules allow you to tailor your learning toward areas such as health and wellbeing, clinical neuroscience, social psychology, programming or sustainability. The final year focuses on advanced study in cognition, social and developmental psychology, and applied psychological practice, while the dissertation enables you to design and carry out an independent research project. You can also choose from a wide range of specialist options, including decision-making, visual cognition, lifespan development, clinical or forensic psychology, data science, coaching psychology, occupational psychology, neuropsychology, mental health, sport psychology and educational psychology.
