COURSE CURRICULUM

The Electrical and Electronic Engineering BEng at Leicester provides a structured and comprehensive pathway for students to develop the knowledge and skills required for modern engineering challenges. In the first year, students share a common foundation with other engineering disciplines, covering essential principles such as sustainable engineering design, digital electronics, principles of electrical engineering, engineering mathematics with programming, solid and fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics and heat transfer. This broad base allows flexibility to switch between engineering degrees before the second year. In the second year, students build on these fundamentals through modules in system dynamics and control, integrated engineering design, analogue electronics and amplifiers, signals and systems, engineering management and business simulation, and electronics test and instrumentation. They also choose option modules such as mechatronics, embedded systems and IoT, computational engineering methods, or electric machines and drives, allowing for tailored specialisation. In the final year, students further focus their studies with advanced options including state variable control, sustainable electrical systems, digital control and actuators, introduction to radio systems, real-time cyber-physical system design, power electronics, machine learning for engineers, digital system design and programming, flight dynamics and control, and national grid design and operation. The program combines theoretical understanding with practical, hands-on experience, equipping graduates with the skills and expertise to succeed in diverse sectors such as energy, aerospace, automotive, robotics, and telecommunications.
