COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng in Aerospace Engineering provides a comprehensive pathway for students to develop the knowledge and skills required for a career in this dynamic field. In the first year, all engineering students share a common curriculum covering fundamental principles such as sustainable engineering design, engineering mathematics with programming, solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and heat transfer, electrical engineering, and digital electronics and communications. This foundation allows students to switch between engineering disciplines before specialising. In the second year, students focus on aerospace engineering while continuing to build essential engineering expertise. Core modules include integrated engineering design, system dynamics and control, materials and structures, fluid dynamics and aerodynamics, dynamics and vibrations, aircraft performance and navigation, aircraft systems and propulsion, and engineering management with business simulation. Team-based design projects provide valuable interdisciplinary experience and collaborative skills. In the final year, students have the opportunity to specialise further and undertake an individual project, exploring a specific aerospace engineering challenge in depth. Advanced modules cover finite element analysis and design, state variable control, compressible and applied aerodynamics, and flight dynamics and control, with optional modules such as rigid body and structural dynamics, digital control and actuators, machine learning for engineers, and aerospace materials and structures. This combination of theoretical knowledge, practical application, and project experience equips graduates with the technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and interdisciplinary understanding necessary to succeed in the aerospace industry or pursue further postgraduate study.
