COURSE CURRICULUM

In this degree, your first year provides an equal introduction to Politics and Sociology, giving you a strong foundation in both disciplines. You will explore key political systems, including the government and politics of the USA, alongside core sociological themes through modules that encourage practical engagement and analysis of social transformation. In the second year, you have significant freedom to shape your learning, selecting from a broad range of modules that cover political ideas, party systems, gender in global politics, youth studies, sociological theory, environmental sociology and more. This allows you to begin tailoring your studies to your interests, with the option to specialise further if you plan to undertake a Politics dissertation. In your final year, you will again balance both subjects while choosing from an extensive selection of advanced modules examining topics such as feminism, conflict, political leadership, migration, emotions in global politics, social psychology, the body, and contemporary social issues. You may complete either a Politics dissertation, a sociology-focused research module or an applied research pathway, depending on your academic goals. By combining political analysis with sociological understanding, the course equips you with strong critical thinking, research skills and a deep insight into how political and social forces shape the modern world.
