COURSE CURRICULUM

The Politics and Economics BA provides a structured progression through core foundations in economic theory and political analysis, beginning in Year 1 with essential modules in microeconomics, macroeconomics, mathematics for economics and an in-depth introduction to politics. Students also broaden their perspective through optional modules exploring political concepts, European politics or global economic power dynamics. In Year 2, the course deepens its analytical focus with intermediate microeconomics and macroeconomics, alongside economic history and dissertation preparation. Students tailor their studies through options examining global economic change, political ideas, gender in global politics, political parties and specialist economic fields such as labour economics, central banking or environmental economics. They also explore governance, EU politics or foreign policy. The final year centres on either a politics dissertation or a specialised module in communicating economics, supported by a wide choice of advanced options. These include areas such as international trade, investment management, feminism, public opinion, nuclear politics, behavioural economics, public economics, international finance, political theory, colonialism, protest movements and British or American political developments. By combining rigorous economics training with a rich understanding of political systems, students graduate with strong analytical, critical and research skills relevant to diverse careers.
